And the Great Migration begins

On 30 Sept 2006 I joined lj. Mostly because I was following all the authors that were writing in the Gundam Wing fandom but it was new and fun and there were lots of things to read and people to follow. Then it was the Great Strikethrough and after that, it just was never the same again.

And now the whole Russian thing.

Ah, LiveJournal, how I loved you. I love my background on you, all dark blue with the dragonfly and full moon. I love going back and rereading all the things others posted, who have gone on to other things, but their words linger on.

And although there are some who are not going to delete their journals, I'm too old to go through any more of this kind of crap. And I'm sorry, but I can't trust anything that comes out of Russia. I guess I'm just hard-wired that way.

So, today, after checking to see who is left on my friends list, and scrolling once more down memory lane, I will be deleting my journal.

People are going to move, I just know it

With all the weird crap the lj just did, I have the feeling that there's going to be a lot of moving from there to here (or insane, where I am also). Of course, lj has been on the downhill slide since the whole selling, and this is probably going to take it over the edge.

It was nice while it lasted.

So, this is a thing.

Got onto here and found.... that's it's been a forever time ago that I have posted. And sadly, I remember when this was a thing, and there were lots of posts and everyone commented and....

Not so much, anymore.

I read all of Sunhawk's posts (yes, each day until the Christmas one, and then I didn't think about it until today) and she is in just as good of form as always. She is as entertaining and still writes some of the best dialog fics that I have ever read.

The I read the Christmas post. 'le sigh'

I am a SAD person. I have been a SAD person. I know better than to read some things during this time of year. On the other hand, it's Sunhawk and Christmas and... there was a lot of dust in my house, made my eyes all watery. But still really well done.

So, anyway, this is my Christmas time post, I'm no longer working at the old job site (praise Thor!) and so now (at the moment) I'm being paid to sit at home, well, clean up my home and run around after the daughter. After the first of the year? Who knows.

Hope everyone has had a nice Christmas or whatever you celebrate and that the season sees everyone healthy, if not wealthy and wise!

Post a day.

Well, I can try, but I'm not promising anything!

Went to work, realized that we're short-handed for the next week, had a co-worker go to the ER and found out she has a massive infection (somewhere) and she's out for the forseeable future.

Came home and am just going to try to get through one more day.

Hope everyone's day went better than mine!

It's my Birthday!

And I have to work.

But it's been a quiet morning and there were all sorts of birds outside (a bit cool, the wind is blowing and that takes all the fun out of everything!) and the squirrel from yesterday is still out there. The closest woods to us is almost half a mile and we don't have that many trees so I'm not really sure why we have a squirrel at this point.

So I get to work 12-9 today and hopefully that will be the last of late nights that I will work.

This is sad, that something I used to do all the time, I barely look at at all.

Holy Thor!

More than a year ago! Since I last posted? Wow, that's got to be a record, even for me.

So, it's Christmas. Thank Thor for Sunhawk and her wonderful dialog fics, they do set the mood.

And today we put the little light trees outside and turned them on. It's really the only decoration we have outside this year, just haven't been in the mood or well enough to do more.

Work is work. I'm just hoping to make it through the holidays without stabbing anyone. At least this year I have both Christmas eve and Christmas off.

Oh yes, last March I changed my availablity at work. No more 4, 5 or 6 days straight. I have Wed and Sat off. At my age, 2-3 days are my limit. (Well, of stupidity that I can tolerate at one time.) But it does make it better. Sort of.

The daughter is home from school and seems to be doing well, although she has caught the awful cold crap that's going around. The son is working at the PO and hopefully will get full time at some point.

I bought 2 new rugs. One for the hall (came today, looks great!) and one for the middle room (will come Fri) because I was tired of the old crap we have. So I will have new prettiness.

And that's my year in review.

Hope everyone has a Good Christmas and a Happy New Year!

A Horrible Terrible No Good Day

I could listen to 2Cellos playing Benedictus for hours (well, maybe not, I'd probably fall asleep at some point) because it relaxes me totally.

Work is becoming more and more stressful. And I don't look for it to become any better.

Crap and more crap

Which really isn't the truth.

In July, we went up to see my folks and it was nice, but I could tell that my dad was not doing as well as he had been at the nephew's graduation the year before. Aug rolls around, more family visit them and then he starts falling. At some point he tore the cartilage around some of his ribs and yes, this is not going to end well.

He caught pneumonia, went into the hospital, then to hospice, and died a week ago last Mon. We were on our way back (had been there when he was in the hospital and then to hospice), but...

So, he's better off, but the rest of us are still kind of limping along.

And as I said to my sister-in-law, this is the fourth death in three years. I am done with it. No more for a long time. Really.

All sorts of things

Today was day 4 of 6. Two more days until vacation and I'm going to want to collapse instead of get ready to go up and see my parents. Stupid work.

I have a question: does anyone know what happened to Ashkara and Christy who were writing Changing Allegiance? Because it was a really well done fic and it's such a shame that it hasn't been update in quite a long time. And yes, I know, the whole rl issue (looks at own stuff that hasn't been touched in AGES) but it would be nice to know something.

I really should be doing housework/laundry/dishes/something! But, I'm gong to goof off tonight, I don't work until 2 tomorrow so I can get things done in the morning.

Sad Day

It's a good thing that today is sunny because I didn't get a lot of sleep last night and this morning my mom called and told me that Danny had died. He had esophageal cancer two years ago and they thought they had gotten all of it but the cancer had spread to his hips. We found out that he had gone into hospice a couple of days ago and that he only had a couple of months.

Last night I eventually did a death watch because I just couldn't get to sleep and stay there. He was my mom's cousin, but not that much older than me and it just doesn't seem fair, he and Henry were going to go to Memphis and listen to jazz when he retired. At least he had time to get all his affairs in order and to get everything set up for Henry (they live in the backward state of WI, so he had to go through a lawyer who could set everything up so Henry could inherit).

This is the third that we've lost in this family to cancer within the last 3-4 years. It's getting old, real fast.

STAR TREK: INTO THE DARKNESS

OMG!!!!!!

We went to see it today and the daughter and I are SO going again! So much action and not enough time to process everything! I came home and immediately bought the music so that I can listen to it over and over again.

I'm not sure if I will get to see Ironman 3 but I just couldn't resist the whole greatness that is Star Trek!

Birthday week!

Started out all right, Wednesday was the 3Cellos at the Orpheum (they were FABULOUS!!!!), and then it was my bd and I got a crock for the kitchen and Amazon money and then today we went out for dinner. I ate too much but the tilapia was wonderful and there is enough leftovers for lunch.

For a 60th bd, it was fine. Everyone at work (who isn't 60) were surprised that we weren't doing more things or having a big party or whatever.

Of course, I'm the 3rd person in the deli to turn 60, and there is one more and then one in the bakery. Says something that there are so many older workers, most of us working full time. At least I'm mostly getting Sat. off so that I'm not exhausted all the time.

Now, if I could just get my knee fixed...

Die Hard

Not the best of the bunch, but entertaining, none the less! The not quite 2 hours went by really quickly and I laughed a lot!

Now for RED2 in August.

Happy New Year

See the pretty icon above?

That's what I'm ready for.

It snowed today, not a lot but still...

And we did go out for dinner (steaks, yum!) and then had a glass of wine when we got home. And that was our new years celebrating.

Oh yes, I paid bills. yippee.

So, happy new year to everyone and may it be better than the last!

The passing of old friends

Yesterday an old friend died that kind of kept our old CIT/LIT group together. She was the one that knew what everyone was doing and where everyone (and their kids) were...

She had pancreatic cancer and it was already too late by the time they caught it.

I will miss her... a lot.

Shopping!

So last week the daughter and I went out and bought stuff for the 2 kids we picked off the Angel tree in Avon. She picked the kids and what they wanted, I wouldn't have picked boots or a coat but we got cute stuff at Penney's. We also took it back to the bank the same day, kind of a tradition. And I always buy more than just what's on the ornament, and include a toy/game and a Christmas ornament.

Then today she asks: when does the Angel tree end? I looked it up in our little paper and said that we have to have everything turned in by Dec. 12. Why, do you want to pick more?

So, today we ended up in Macomb buying for two little ones. I have to say it was maybe more fun (pants and shirt) because the boy was 6 months so we got an educational toy that's fun and the girl got Mega blocks because we couldn't find anything that we really wanted to give a 4 yr old girl.

Not sure when I raised a socially aware daughter, but it's kind of nice.

And when we got home, there were packages for both of us... presents and curtains in mine, long sleeve shirts for her. Really, I'm almost done with my stuff, just need one or two items for Mary's kids and something else for the husband. Then I'm done.

'Course, then I'll start squirreling away stuff for next year...
